Market Commentary March

The FTSE 100 finished March up 0.82%. The Bank of England held the base rate of interest rate at 0.25%, however, inflation crept above the bank’s 2% target reaching 2.3%. If inflation continues to rise the Bank may need to consider increasing the base rate of interest, however most commentators believe this is sometime away.

Market Commentary February

The FTSE 100 continued its recent upward trajectory closing the month at 7,263.44, amid the backdrop of weak Sterling. Despite Consumer Price Inflation reaching 1.8% (year on year), the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee held the base rate of interest at 0.25%.

2017 started where 2016 finished off as the FTSE 100 broke its own record highs on more than one occasion in January. The Dow Jones in America broke the 20,000 mark for the first time in its history.
