Johnston Carmichael adds to Elgin leadership team

Top 10 UK accountancy firm Johnston Carmichael, has expanded its senior team in Elgin with a new promotion.

Ruth Canham, who has been at the firm since July 2017, becomes Business Advisory Director effective 1 June.

The firm’s Elgin office offers a range of services to support the local community’s business and personal financial needs including: advice on business related matters, tax planning, audit, payroll services, employment tax, and pension and succession planning.

Following a previous promotion to Business Advisory manager in 2019, Ruth has been overseeing business advisory teams in both Elgin and Inverness.

In recent years she has had a firm-wide role in managing and developing internal quality control systems across Johnston Carmichael’s Business Advisory function, including enhancing the internal quality review process and assisting with the introduction of the UK version of new international accountancy quality management standards.

Ruth is one of three new directors across the firm. Joining her are Ryan Crilley, an Audit specialist based in Glasgow, and Irina Cheburdanidze, who is based in the firm’s Edinburgh office and has more than 17 years’ experience in financial reporting.

Johnston Carmichael has 14 offices across the UK, including London and Newcastle. It is a member of leading international accounting, audit and business advisory network Moore Global, which has a global community of more than 30,000 people in 110 countries worldwide.

Ruth is enrolled on the Moore Quest programme, which is designed to inspire new and emerging leaders and support their personal development, helping them thrive in senior roles.
