Self-Employment Income Support Scheme grant extension and increased support

Following on from the weekend’s announcements that the Job Retention Scheme would be extended, today the Chancellor announced increased support for the self-employed. Like it’s counterpart for the employed, the previous proposals set out just under a month ago have now been significantly amplified to handle the continual impact that COVID is having on the economy.

Coronavirus - when can business debt become a personal obligation?

Business support packages and tax deferrals schemes have been a lifeline for the majority of businesses during the pandemic, with the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme being one of the most significant. At last count, on 20 September, HMRC confirmed that 1.2 million employers had made use of the scheme which equated to a claims value of £39 billion.

Furlough scheme extension – points for employers to consider now

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (also known as the furlough scheme), has now been extended to at least 3 December 2020. Whilst the Government has stated that additional guidance will be provided shortly, many employers are going to need to take urgent and immediate decisions in relation to their workforces.

Market Commentary October 2020

As the number of coronavirus cases mounted throughout October and fears of a second lockdown increased, the main index came under renewed pressure closing the month down nearly 5%. In terms of performance, this was the worst month for the index of the current crisis since markets fell significantly in March of this year.
