UK Budget 2020 - Corporation Tax

It was widely expected that the headline corporate tax rate would be held at 19%, rather than reduced to 17% as previously legislated and the Chancellor followed through with this in order to fund a number of measures in what can very much be seen as a public spending Budget.

UK Budget predictions 2020 - Employment Taxes

Despite the controversy and confusion and pre-election promises of a review it looks certain that IR35 will be implemented as planned on April 6. The recent consultation has closed, and the government are pressing ahead. However, there still remains a strong call for Rishi Sunak to halt the process, with demonstrations taking place outside Westminster and commentators lambasting the plans but this seems certain to be ignored.

Scottish Budget 2020/21 - increase to LBTT rate for non-residential leases

Kate Forbes, Minister for Public Finance and Digital Economy, announced an increase of LBTT from 1% to 2% on certain non-residential (commercial) property leases, with effect from 7 February. The increase comes into force the day after the Budget announcement, but is still subject to Royal Assent.

As Brexit day approaches on 31 January, momentum continues to build as the final hurdle has been passed - the European Parliament has ratified the Withdrawal Agreement Bill, after the heads of the European Commission & Council signed their consent earlier in the process.
