Autumn budget day confirmed and latest tax changes announced

Over recent months in the run up to the general election it has, in tax terms, been ‘all quiet on the Western Front’. Monday’s announcement that the UK budget will be on 30 October and the release of draft tax legislation for Finance Bill 2024-25 changed all of that and what is clear is Labour are following through on pre-election pledges.

Additional Dwelling Supplement (ADS) – Changes effective from 1 April 2024

Following an extensive consultation period by Revenue Scotland, new legislation was introduced on 1 April 2024 to alter and, in most instances, improve the Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (“LBTT”) rules in respect of the Additional Dwelling Supplement (ADS).

Autumn Statement 2023: big money for business and pennies in the pockets of workers

HMRC spotlight on school fee planning

In a further focus on tax paid by Owner Managed Businesses, HMRC has issued a spotlight inviting disclosure of any tax planning schemes involving issuance of shares that pay dividends used to fund school fees.
