The ‘Chartered Akiltants’ took the Mighty Stride for SAMH
On Sunday 30 April, a team of staff and partners from the Johnston Carmichael Glasgow office joined a record breaking 7,200 walkers to raise money for charities across Scotland.
Cheered on by an amazing team of volunteers; walkers of all ages and abilities took part with the 15-mile Big Stroll and six mile Wee Wander as well as the 23-mile Mighty Stride.
The Johnston Carmichael team, led by Glasgow Office Managing Partner Mark Houston, tackled the 23 miles to raise money for SAMH, the Scottish Association for Mental Health. It’s a charity the team in Glasgow have been supporting for the last year and are always looking for further opportunities to raise extra funds.
The challenge for the Kiltwalk overall is to raise a staggering £1million for Scottish charities across the four events and after such a successful first event in Glasgow, it looks like things are definitely on track.
This year, for every £1 raised, £1.10 will go to walkers’ chosen charities. This comes after Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation generously pledged that 110% of all fundraising at each of the four 2017 events will go to charity.
“The atmosphere was incredible as we kicked off the Mighty Stride from Glasgow green with thousands of other walkers, all in great spirits.
We were humbled to be led out by six-year-old Nathan Mowat from Gourock who suffers from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and was raising money with family and friends for Calum’s Cabin. It reminded us just how important events like this are.
The team at Johnston Carmichael are thrilled to be supporting the Kiltwalk as Gold sponsors, helping fulfil its ambition of becoming the world’s largest mass participation event. I’d urge anyone who is thinking of signing up for future walks to go ahead. Not only is it great for the charities but it’s a great day out for the family too!”
