Johnston Carmichael team takes on ultimate Kiltwalk challenge
26 April 2024
More than 100 people from accountancy and business advisory firm, Johnston Carmichael, are gearing up for Scotland’s biggest fundraising event of the year, the Kiltwalk.
Johnston Carmichael has been a gold sponsor of the charity event for eight years as part of its commitment to supporting the communities in which its 900 people live and work.
Three eager participants will be steps ahead of their teammates as they embark on tackling all four Mighty Stride Kiltwalk events in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh, each covering an impressive 83.5 miles.
Edinburgh-based audit partner, Grant Roger, Edinburgh office head and corporate finance partner, Mark Stewart, and Haydn Burgoyne, tax assistant manager, will be fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support and Myeloma UK, in recognition of the invaluable service the charities provide to people affected by cancer.
The trio are seasoned Kiltwalkers having completed various events over the last eight years, but this will be the first time any have tackled all four events in one year.
They will be joined more than 100 other colleagues across the events which start in Glasgow this weekend (28 April), followed by Aberdeen (2 June), Dundee (11 August) and Edinburgh (15 September).
Grant said: “We’re incredibly proud to continue our gold sponsorship of the Kiltwalk, which has raised invaluable funds for charities across Scotland, and made a meaningful difference to thousands of lives. Whilst crossing the finish line of the Edinburgh Mighty Stride event last year, Haydn, Mark and I agreed that we’d take on all four events in 2024, and we have kept to our word.
“We recognise we are being ambitious, but the atmosphere on the day and cheers from spectators will rally us through and importantly, we are raising money for an incredible cause. Sadly, most people will be impacted by cancer directly or indirectly during their lifetime and Macmillan Cancer Support provides a tremendous service for those affected socially, emotionally and economically.”
Mark added: “Losing both parents to cancer in the same week in 2016 was a life altering event for my family and I, but the support we received from Myeloma UK was incredible. These organisations are run by people who are completely selfless and raising money to give back is important to me, so that other families can receive the same level of support we did.”
Haydn continued: “I’m really proud that Johnston Carmichael is a gold sponsor and it’s brilliant to spend time with my team and everyone else taking part across the four Kiltwalks. There is more to us as a firm than just spreadsheets.
“There is still time to sign up to the Kiltwalk in Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh and I would encourage anyone who can, to sign up and enjoy the feel-good buzz of crossing the finish line whilst raising funds for charity.”
