Johnston Carmichael’s Kiltwalk team piped across the finish line
Walkers from leading accountancy and business advisory firm, Johnston Carmichael, made Dundee Kiltwalk a family affair as they were piped across the finish line by a team member’s son.
Jude Lean’s, Senior Talent, Learning and Development Manager at the firm, son Ruaridh played the bagpipes for the group when they finished the charity challenge on Sunday.
Ruaridh is following in the family footsteps by learning to play the iconic Scottish instrument, with his father, uncles and cousins all being keen pipers. He has just finished his first year of tutelage and is hoping to join a pipe band as his skill grows.
A team of 15 from the firm’s Dundee office laced up their boots to support Ninewells Cancer Campaign, which raises money for cancer treatment at the city’s Ninewells Hospital.
Staff chose to back the charity in support of a colleague’s friend, who is currently receiving treatment for cancer at the hospital.
Jude said: “I’ve had a great time taking part in my first Kiltwalk. It was great getting to do it alongside some of my team.
“Having Ruaridh play the bagpipes as we crossed the finish line was a real highlight. He’s been playing for the last year, and it was a lovely moment at the end of the day.
“We’ve been raising funds for Ninewells Cancer Campaign, as one of our colleague’s close friends is currently receiving treatment there. It’s such a worthy cause that we all feel passionate about.
“I’ve personally loved training for Kiltwalk. We’ve been doing a lot of walking as a family, and it’s been great to spend time outdoors with my children.
Jude is a member of the firm’s People Experience team and feels that training for the Kiltwalk has also really helped the wellbeing of staff across the firm.
She said: “Employee welfare is important at Johnston Carmichael, given we work in such a fast paced and intricate field.
“Besides the obvious physical benefits, events like Kiltwalk also help bring us together as a team and I think everyone enjoyed taking part.”
Johnston Carmichael’s Dundee office operates a robust programme of fundraising events, recently helping raise funds for Dundee Bairns as well as other local food banks and Street Soccer Scotland's Dundee Centre.
Johnston Carmichael has been a gold sponsor of Kiltwalk, Scotland’s favourite mass participation charity event, for the last seven years as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the communities that its people work and live in.
