Nicola is a Private Client Tax Director based in Tayside. She specialises in tax advisory services for rural businesses, succession planning, and complex compliance matters. Nicola leads the firm’s Rural Tax Advisory Pillar and is widely regarded as a trusted expert in this sector.

Since joining Johnston Carmichael in 2018, Nicola has driven innovation internally as well as regularly advising on high-value transactions and Inheritance Tax planning, in particular the proposed changes to Inheritance Tax from April 2026 and the impact this has for our farming clients. Her technical expertise also extends to emerging areas such as carbon credit taxation.

As a long-standing member of both the Chartered Institute of Taxation and Association of Taxation Technicians and approaching 25 years in tax, Nicola continues to update her knowledge in the ever-changing tax landscape and represents JC on HMRC forums and industry committees.

Outside of work, Nicola enjoys spending time with her family and their cocker spaniel, Willow. She is also a passionate Coldplay fan and one of her most cherished memories is taking her two children to their first concert – a Coldplay concert of course!
